Chris Brown And Rihanna Trial | MUSIC NEWS
After months of speculation, the Chrihanna Saga has finally come to a close.
A topsy-turvy few months of wondering whether or not Chris Brown would serve jail time for his alleged assault of Rihanna back on February 8, after a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles has ended in what could be deemed the best case scenario for all parties involved.
Rather than head to trial - which could have resulted in a showdown with Rihanna - Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos copped a guilty plea for felony assault and he will deal with hard labor and probation rather than face the possibility of sitting in a jail cell.
In Brown's plea deal, the singer avoids any time behind bars, but will spend 180 days doing hard labor (1440 hrs in total) in his hometown in Virginia. He will also get five years of probation for felony assault charges – for which he pled guilty – and will have to come back to court every three months. Brown is also ordered to steer clear of Rihanna and must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.
If Brown violates his probation at any time, he could face four years in prison.
Brown entered the courtroom at approximately 4:24 p.m. EST in a grey suit, with his mother and family arriving with him to show their support. Shortly after, Rihanna entered the courthouse – but never made her way into the courtroom - as many insiders speculated that the possibility of a plea deal could have faded away.
However, around 5 p.m., a plea deal was indeed in place bringing this long saga to a close.
Shortly after Brown left the courtroom, Rihanna entered to have the details of the plea outlined to her by the judge.
This effectively makes Chris Brown a convicted felon who can no longer vote or carry a gun.
The details regarding Brown staying away from Rihanna are of note. If both Brown and Rihanna are at the same event – which is expected for two celebrities of their caliber – Brown must remain 10 yards away from the pop princess. In any other instance, Brown must stay 50 yards away from Rihanna.
Rihanna's attorney, Donald Etra, spoke to the media shortly after the proceedings and explained that Rihanna was notified of the plea deal earlier today, but was fully prepared to testify if the situation called for it. Etra also explained that it was Brown’s option whether or not to spend 180 days in jail or doing community labor. He is expected to do the hard labor.
